I’ll post the most commonly asked questions here — and if you have a question I haven’t covered, ask away. That’s how we learn.
Q: What are the basic firearms safety rules?
A: Always follow four core safety rules:
Once a firearm is in your hands, you are 100% responsible for its safe handling.
Q: If I pay my deposit, can I get my money back?
A: Deposits are intended to hold your spot and discourage no-shows. If you cancel with enough advance notice for us to re-book your seat, your deposit is refundable. If you cancel late or fail to show, the deposit is non-refundable. If I cancel the class for any reason, you will receive a full refund.
Q: What is the biggest mistake people make with firearms?
A: The most common error is keeping your finger on (or near) the trigger when the sights are not on target. Finger discipline is critical for safety.
Q: How large are your classes? I don’t want to be pushed into a crowd.
A: Classes are intentionally small. Most sessions are semi-private (5–7 people) so you get one-on-one time with the instructor. I can arrange larger classes on request, but small groups provide better instruction and safety.
Q: How long does it take to get a Nevada CCW (concealed carry license)?
A: By Nevada law, the initial CCW class is 8 hours and renewals are 4 hours. My course typically includes ~4 hours classroom (laws, safety, fundamentals, written test) and live-fire qualification. Note: Las Vegas Metro is currently taking up to 120 days or longer to process paperwork, so start early.
Q: Do I have to bring my own gun?
A: No — you may use a friend’s firearm, or limited rentals are sometimes available (ask in advance). However, I strongly recommend training and qualifying with the gun you plan to carry so you build muscle memory with your actual firearm.
Q: Can I qualify with a .22 and carry a .44 mag?
A: Yes. You may qualify with a different caliber, but I recommend that the last gun you shoot in class be the one you plan to carry, so your final practice reflects your carry setup.
Q: Can guns fire by themselves if dropped?
A: Modern firearms undergo drop-safety testing and are very unlikely to discharge from a normal drop. Still, treat every gun as loaded and follow safety rules at all times. Human error—not the gun—causes most incidents.
Q: What should I bring to class?
A: Classroom: valid ID (no ammo in the classroom), the handgun(s) you’ll use for qualification (if you have them), and any notes you want to take.
Range: minimum 200 rounds of ammo (highly recommended to bring more), eye and ear protection, water, snacks, and weather-appropriate clothing (we shoot outside). If you have special needs (diabetic, mobility assistance, etc.), please tell us in advance.
Q: Can I pay for the entire class before attending?
A: Yes. You may pay in full via Venmo: @Rod-Couey (949-466-4317). Deposits hold your seat; full payment is accepted.
Q: Can I take photos during class?
A: Yes — please take photos and share your best shots with us. If you send photos, we may post them on the site or social media (we’ll credit you if you want).
Q: I don’t have ammo or a gun — can I still take the class?
A: You may use a friend’s firearm or request a rental (limited availability; arrange in advance). If you cannot find ammo, contact the instructor — we can often help locate sources or suggest alternatives.
Home hardening is important. Make your home as safe as possible. Anthony can help you with security gates (I have a few myself), custom-made Security Doors, Martial Arts, and he is a great CCW instructor, too. Contact him at https://www.besafertoday.com/
